Hungarian algorithm to revolutionize drone technology
Drones of the future are expected to make our everyday lives easier. Technological innovations of unmanned aerial vehicles would enable them to fly into cramped places for rescue operations or search vast expanses of land. A Hungarian research team has come up with an algorithm to polish drone movement in groups.
As the precision of taking off, landing and flight control of drones is increasing, these flying vehicles are thought to be used in urban environment in the future for commercial use, e.g. for deliveries. Researchers around the world are studying flying animals and insects to improve drones to endure extreme weather conditions like heat, freezing cold or even thunderstorms.
A Hungarian research team has developed an algorithm that enables drones to fly together like flocks of bird. The development was demonstrated when 9 quadcopters were following a moving car, in a formation. Harvard University research group has created a millimeter-sized drone suitable for exploring places covered by rubble, exposing the view what is under.
Though improvements in drone technology keep flocking, the most challenging problem of airborne robots seem to be extreme weather conditions. Thunderstorms, immense rain and heavy wind seem to be posing serious issues for unmanned flying vehicles, issues that need to be solved.
