GKI: Business, consumer confidence improve in January

GKIʼs combined gauge of consumer and business confidence stood at 1.0 points in January, up from -1.5 in December, Hungarian news agency MTI reported this morning.

The business confidence index rose to 7.2 points in January from 4.7 in the previous month. The consumer confidence index rose to -16.6 points from -19.2.

Industrial companiesʼ assessment of output in the previous period as well as their production outlook and the order stock - including export orders - improved. Their assessment of inventories deteriorated.

Construction companiesʼ assessment of their output in the previous period was unchanged and that of orders deteriorated.

In the commercial sector, companiesʼ assessment of sales positions improved in spite of inventories perceived as rising while their expectations for orders was unchanged.

Companies in the service sector said business was better and their outlook improved.

Householdsʼ assessment of their own financial outlook improved and more said they could make savings in the coming year.
