ENKSZ in talks with unnamed retail electricity provider
Hungaryʼs First National Utilities Company (ENKSZ), recently established by the state to act as an efficient, predictable and cheap utilities provider, is in talks with another player on the retail electricity market, state secretary Zsuzsa Németh said at a press conference today, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
Németh did not reveal the name of the party, but noted that ENKSZ would take over the retail clients of electricity distributors ELMŰ and ÉMÁSZ from the beginning of next year, under an agreement between the government and German owner RWE signed in the spring.
The talks will allow ENKSZ to launch on the retail electricity market from next January, as planned, she said.
In addition to ELMŰ and ÉMÁSZ, the only other "universal service providers" – companies that provide households with electricity using a price structure and level controlled by the state – in Hungary are French-owned EDF DÉMÁSZ and German-owned E.ON.
ENKSZ launched services on the gas market last May, using Főgáz, also a former unit of RWE, as a bridgehead.
