EDF Démász unit inaugurates HUF 1.3 bln biogas power plant
Zöldforrás Energia, majority-owned by EDF Démász, on Wednesday inaugurated a HUF 1.3 billion biogas power plant in Szeged (SE Hungary).
The plant has nominal capacity of 1,200kW.
Zöldforrás Energia is co-owned by crop growers Agroplanta and Karotin, livestock farmer Pigmark, which is supplying manure to make the biogas, and Deák, which is a unit of the Szeged University of Sciences.
EDF Démász chairman-CEO Thierry Le Boucher said the company's partnership with the university and support of research there had resulted in more efficient methane production.
The investment was supported with a HUF 625 million European Union grant.
The plant will generate an annual 7.5 GWh of electricity, enough to power 3,700 homes. An additional 6.9 GWh of heat energy will be used to heat Pigmark's barns as well as Karotin's drying facility.
