Hungary's biggest digital television companies had 1,677,000 subscribers at the end of January, up 19,000 from a month earlier, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) said on Tuesday.

The data cover Hungary's 12 biggest digital television service providers, which control almost 88% of the market.

The number of their digital subscribers with cable or IPTV connections rose by 11,000 to 701,000 during the month.

The number with satellite connections was around 923,000, up 3,000 from a month earlier. There were about 53,000 subscribers to MinDig TV Extra services at the end of the month.

About 3.2 million Hungarian households are pay-television subscribers. About 800,000 households watch analogue, digital or satellite television content for which broadcasters do not charge.

Taking into account all services, UPC was market leader at the end of January with a market share of 25.9%, followed by DIGI with 23% and Magyar Telekom with 22.6%.
