Daimler plant continues to boost Hungary automotive sector
Exports of Hungary's automotive sector continued to rise in May, supported by the start of production at German carmaker Daimler's new plant in Kecskemét, a second reading of data for the period published by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Friday show.
The new plant, which started serial production at the end of March, supported an 11.6% increase in exports of the motor vehicles manufacturing sector in May from the same month a year earlier.
Headline industrial output edged down 0.4% in May from the same month a year earlier as the expansion in the automotive sector as well as the food industry failed to offset lower demand for vehicle fuel and a contraction in the communications equipment manufacturing sector as Finnish handset maker Nokia moved production from Hungary to Asia. Headline industrial output rose 1.9%, adjusted for the number of work days.
