Changes to Hungaroring circuit unlikely

Changes to the circuit of the Hungaroring Formula 1 race track in Mogyoród, near Budapest, will probably not be necessary to ensure Hungary can renew its F-1 contract for 2017-2021, Zsolt Gyulay, who heads the track's operator, said on commercial television on Monday. Gyulay was quick to add that changes to the circuit had not been excluded entirely. “It must be thought through,” he told Digi Sport. He said improvements at the track must be made, but these could include extending the home stretch or raising the level of services. Improvements that present an “unbelievably large burden” to the state or the company cannot be made; nor can changes to the circuit be started that cannot be completed by the 2014 race, he added. Late last year, Hungaroring Sport deputy-CEO Júlia Gazsi said the circuit could be extended to include more passing zones and close to 20 turns. At present, the circuit has 13 turns.
