Wages at Budapest Airport and its subsidiaries are set to increase by 12.8% on average, as the airport reached an agreement with business councils and trade unions about base wages and bonus increases, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

The agreement means that about 1,200 employees of the company operating Liszt Ferenc International Airport will get an increase from March. About 98% of those who start working at Budapest Airport will get a pre-tax wage of more than HUF 300,000 along with a range of other benefits, the press release says.

At BUD Security Kft., the subsidiary in charge of security, the basic wage of security inspectors is set to be HUF 320,000 on average, while an experienced worker in the position may get as much as HUF 400,000 per month.

"At the airport - somewhat unlike in other industries - a very large number of professions are represented, ranging from traditional office work, through varying professional and engineering, to positions in the security field," notes Zsuzsa Zahorán-Pirisi, HR director of Budapest Airport. "As one of the largest employers of the region, we have to lead by example not only in the area of respectable wages, but developing working conditions as well, and this is one of our special goals this year."

This yearʼs wage increase means a basic salary increase of tens of thousands of forints in every position. Additionally, quarterly and yearly bonuses are also set to grow, depending on the employeeʼs position. The agreement with the trade unions also includes the fee of the traditional Christmas bonus, the airport says.
