Furniture maker Sinia Bútorgyártó is building a plant at a cost of HUF 1.7 billion (€5.78 million) in the Bátonyterenye industrial park, northeast Hungary, managing director of the Belgian-owned company Joost Vandendriessche said at a press conference on Tuesday. Production at the plant will start in one year with 150 workers, Vandendriessche said. European Union funding and state co-financing is covering 44% of the investment. Sinia operates in an industrial park in nearby Salgótarján at present, but had no room to expand. The base in Salgótarján employs 225 people. Sinia had revenue of HUF 3.6 billion in 2012. It exports leather sofas and chairs to Western Europe, mainly the Benelux countries and France.
