Hungary’s advertising market grew just 0.6% to HUF 175.4 billion in 2013, data from the Hungarian Advertising Association (MRSz) show. According to MRSz deputy director Péter Hivatal, the fastest-growing market was radio, where spending on ads climbed 29% year-on-year to more than HUF 8.8 billion.

Spending on television commercials fell 6% y.o.y. to HUF 45.6 billion, right in line with an EY survey commissioned by the Hungarian Association of Electronic Program Providers (MEME) and conducted in mid-February. At that time, MEME chairman Krisztián Kovács stated that the data suggests the decline in revenue from TV advertising slowed in 2013, and could come to a halt this year.

Spending on online ads rose 16% y.o.y. to HUF 39 billion, and spending on print ads dropped 4% to HUF 35.8 billion.
