Unemployment rate at 3.5%

In the period of September–November 2019, the average number of unemployed people was 163,000, and the unemployment rate was 3.5%. Men were characterized by lower unemployment, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reports.

The unemployment among 15–74-year-old men decreased to 84,000 and the unemployment rate to 3.3% in September-November 2019. Among women, the number of unemployed totaled 80,000, and the unemployment rate was 3.8%.
Among people aged 15–24, the number of unemployed increased by 8,300 to 43,000 and their unemployment rate by 2.9 percentage points to 13.2%. More than a quarter of the unemployed belonged to this age group, KSH says. The unemployment rate of the 25–54 age group decreased to 3%, and that of people aged 55–74 decreased by 0.9 percentage point to 1.6%.
The average duration of unemployment was 10.6 months; 30.5% of unemployed people had been searching for a job for one year or more.
The total number of registered jobseekers decreased by 1.9% year-on-year to 239,000 at the end of last November, according to the National Employment Service.
