Transport centre invites prequalification tender to operate Budapest buses

Tourism

Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has called a prequalification tender to select bidders to operate Budapest buses.

The move is the first step towards eliminating the monopoly of Budapest Transport Company(BKV) in the city's bus transport, BKK said.

After selecting the potential bus operators in the current round, a second tender with detailed specifics, including the number of vehicles and contract details, will be published in the first quarter of 2012.

Assets will not be sold in the restructuring which is by no means a privatization, the BKK statement said.

The new operating companies will not issue tickets or season tickets of their own, the ticket system, as well as the timetable, the line network and information remain unified.
