Tourism agency aims to double visitors’ spending
The Hungarian Tourism Agency aims to double spending by foreign visitors to the country in 2-3 years, the agencyʼs deputy chief of development Péter Princzinger said in an interview with state-owned news channel M1, as reported by news agency MTI today.
At present, foreign tourists stay just two and a half days in Hungary and spend about €290 on average, Princzinger said on news channel M1.
Hungaryʼs tourism industry needs to emphasize quality over quantity, he said. Foreign tourists should not be coming to Hungary just because it is cheap, he added.
Raising the number of foreign visitors to Hungary "wouldnʼt be bad either," Princzinger said. While many visitors travel from German-speaking regions in Europe as well as from the U.K., more tourists from the U.S., Canada, Brazil and Asia should be targeted, he added.
