Stricter gambling rules might come

Tourism

János Lázár, the leader of Fidesz’s parliamentary group asked Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in a letter to increase the taxes on gambling machines in order to “save the families affected by gambling addiction”, online news portal Origo reported. According to Lázár, the Ministry for National Economy has already made steps to work out a new gambling strategy and regulation. Gambling machine operators said, however, that a stricter regulation might push the sector into a grey area, as it would not be profitable to run machines legally, Origo added. According to a recent survey, 1,2% of Hungarian adults, which translates as 100,000 people are gambling addicts.
