Slovenia, Serbia agree to boost cooperation in agriculture
Slovenia and Serbia agreed on Tuesday that the two countries still have great potential for cooperation in agriculture and actions would be taken to promote the cooperation, said reports reaching Belgrade from the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
Slovenian Agriculture Minister Iztok Jarc told his visiting Serbian counterpart Slobodan Milosavljevic that Slovenian agriculture and food companies were interested in investing in Serbia, the Slovenian news agency STA reported. Milosavljevic, who began a two-day visit to Slovenia on Tuesday, said that agriculture in the two countries is complementary and there is no competition between them, which provides great scope for further development of cooperation. He said that Slovenia is among the most important foreign trade partners of Serbia.
Trade volume between Slovenia and Serbia, which amounted to $560 million last year, was up 50% in the first five months of this year. Jarc said that the two ministers discussed extensively Slovenia 's experience in meeting EU criteria in the areas of agriculture, veterinary issues and the payment agency. Milosavljevic said Serbia would accept the friendly hand offered by Slovenia in helping Serbia's EU accession talks and in the phasing of EU funds. (people.com.cn)
