Hungaroring Sport Zrt. has launched a repaving project valued at HUF 750 mln, on Hungary’s race track in Mogyoród, near Budapest, which also hosts the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the operator told Hungarian economic daily Világgazdaság today.

Chairman-CEO Zsolt Gyulay told the paper that the costs of the investment are being covered by the company’s own resources. However, the company hopes to receive state funding for a HUF 25 bln overhaul of the track it is planning to undertake in the future, the CEO said.

Hungarian news agency MTI reported that ticket sales generate 80-90% of Hungaroringʼs revenue. The company uses the track about 200 days a year.

Following Hungaroringʼs  loss in popularity over Austria’s Grand Prix last year, the venue saw an increase in visitor numbers this year
