Number of broadband connections up, landline phones down in August
The number of broadband internet connections increased by 30,000 in August month-on-month in Hungary, while the number of fixed landline phones dropped by 9,000, the National Communications Authority (NHH) reported on Monday.
There were 760,000 broadband internet connections by the end of August, a 25% increase compared to January, the NHH said, using data provided by Hungary's five major players, Emitel Zrt, Hungarotel Zrt, Magyar Telekom Nyrt, Monortel Zrt and Invitel Zrt, combined with data from five alternative providers and four cable companies.
The number of DSL internet lines went up to over 520,000 in August from the 500,000 in the previous month, the NHH said. The number of cable modem connections increased by 9,000 to 240,000 in August, the authority said, quoting data of the four main providers controlling 90% of the total market.
The number of fixed phone lines was 3,375,000 in the surveyed month, the NHH said, adding that the number of these lines per 100 people decreased to 33.52 from 33.61 reported in July. The ratio of households with fixed phone lines dropped to 66.87% in August from previous month's 67.09%.
