Natural decrease in Hungarian population slows in Jan-July
With decreases occurring in both the death rate and birth rate in Hungary during the first seven months of the year, the natural decrease in the population has slowed slightly, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) yesterday.
In the period of January-July, some 51,882 children were born, 1.4% less than in the corresponding period of last year, while the number of deaths was 72,477, decreasing by 9.7%. As a result, the natural decrease in the population was 20,595 people, some 7,001 fewer than in the first seven months of 2015.
The long-lasting rising trend in the number of marriages has continued during the year, according to the statistics office. The 28,714 marriages registered in the first seven months of 2016 exceeded by 17% the value of the same period a year earlier.
