Travelers spent more than 1,250,000 guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary in May, up by over 200% from the same month a year earlier, the head of the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Saturday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
Zoltán Guller said domestic travelers accounted for 82% of guest nights.
Hotels re-opened their doors to tourists with COVID immunity cards on May 1, after 4 million Hungarians were inoculated.
Guller said the number of guest nights registered this summer was expected to reach "at least 17 million", up from 13.5 million last summer, but still well under the 40 million in the summer of 2019.
