MÁV Cargo privatization only next year

A government bill on a new system of fees for the use of MÁV’s infrastructure to be worked out next year makes daily Magyar Hírlap conclude that the privatization process of freight company MÁV Cargo Zrt will not kick off before H2 in 2007. The privatization will be supervised by the Economy Ministry and the government hopes the sale to yield about Ft 100 billion. Slovakia’s railway transportation company ZSSK Cargo was the first in the region announced for privatization and lured 14 offers, with MÁV Cargo among the shortlisted three ones. Besides, while ZSSK made a loss of koruna 178 million, MÁV Cargo broke even last year and produced an over 10% expansion. Both companies have carriages of an average age of over 20 years. 15-20 % of MÁV Cargo’s shipment is made up of goods in transit, said CEO Tamás Kozák. (Magyar Hírlap)
