Labor watchdog raids motorway sites

Hungarian labor regulators raided the country's motorway construction sites and found that most workers were not registered with authorities, Népszabadság reported.

The National Labor Supervision checked nearly 1,000 workers and found that 80% of them had labor safety deficiencies and 60% hadn't been registered, chairman of the supervision István Papp said. There were 55 foreign citizens, Romanians and Ukrainians, employed at motorway construction sites without a work permit. The employers will have to pay a fine of Ft 500,000 for each person working without a permit.
The supervision will propose changes to labor rules so that all companies taking part in motorway construction would bear the cost of labor irregularities, Népszabadság said.
