Foreign visitors arriving to Hungary spent more than HUF 1.6 trillion in the country in 2015, with a little more than three-fourths of the total being spent by tourists, Hungarian news agency MTI reported on Saturday, citing data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Some 24% of total spending was generated by day-trippers, who accounted for approximately 70% of foreign visitors arriving to Hungary, data by KSH show.

Visitors from Slovenia spent 8% of the total, while visitors from Serbia and Montenegro spent 19%, MTI reported.

Hungarians spent HUF 633 billion when traveling abroad in 2015, with a little more than 80% of the total being spent on tourism, and approximately 12% being spent on shopping, chiefly by day-trippers, MTI said citing KSH data.
