Fixed line subscriptions continued to decrease in Hungary in the third quarter of 2005 while the number of mobile phone subscribers exceeded 9 million within a population of just under 10.1 million, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported. This was the first period when the total length of calls initiated from mobile phones surpassed that of calls on land lines. By late September the number of fixed-line phone connections dropped to 3.5 million from nearly 3.6 million a year before. At the end of the third quarter there were more than 832,000 internet subscriptions, up 22% in a year and 6% in three months. Sales revenues from internet services amounted to Ft 16 billion (EUR 64 million) in the third quarter, a 42% increase compared to the same period of 2004, KSH said.
