Hungary: Unemployment rate 7.6% in in Q2
The average number of unemployed was 319,200 in the 15-74 age group three-month period from April-June 2008, down 2,600 from March-May 2008, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday. The number of unemployed rose 22,300 in one year.
The average unemployment rate was 7.6% for April-June, down 0.1 percentage point from the preceding three-month period and up 0.6 percentage points from same three-month period a year earlier.
According to harmonized figures compiled by Eurostat, in May Hungary’s unemployment rate was 7.4%, compared to 6.6% in the EU-15 and 6.5% in EU-27 during the month. The average number of employed was 3.868 million in the 15-74 age group, up 10,800 from March-May but down 74,000 from April-June 2007. The average number of employed in the 15-64 age group was 3.838 million, up 10,500 from the preceding three-month period but down 74,900 in one year.
The participation or activity rate was 54.3% for the 15-74-year age group and 61.2% for the 15-64 age group in the three-month period from April-June 2007, both up one tenth of a percentage point from the preceding three-month period. (MTI-Econews)
