Hungary dental tourism industry generates HUF 65 bln-70 bln in 2011

Hungary's dental tourism industry was worth HUF 65 billion-70 billion last year, business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Thursday.

About 70,000 foreigners, mostly from the UK, Germany, Italy and France, came to Hungary to undergo dental procedures last year spending €4,500 each on average, according to data from the Medical Tourism Office (OTI).

Between one-fourth and one-third of Hungary's 1,200-1,400 dental practices cater to foreigners.

OTI's research shows foreigners come to Hungary for dental treatment only if they can save at least €2,500 on the cost of undergoing the procedures at home.

About 90% of foreigners seeking dental treatment in Hungary come for tooth replacement.
