Hotel occupancy rate down to 54.6% in H1

Occupancy rate at Hungarian hotels fell by 1 percentage point to 54.6% in the first six months of the year while gross room revenue at current prices rose by 12.7%, partly due to the weakening of the forint, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Monday.
In June, gross revenue per room rose by 16.8% from a year earlier to Ft 17,212 (€61) per room.
Occupancy rate at hotels stood at 67.1% in June, up from 65.1% in May, mainly due to a sharp increase in occupancy rate at Lake Balaton.
The number of guest nights at Hungarian hotels fell by 0.7 percentage point to 3.99 million in H1, mainly because of a decline in guest nights spent Budapest hotels. Gross revenue of commercial accommodations, including catering, amounted to Ft 77 billion (€275 million) in January-May, 3% more at current prices than in the same period of 2005.
