Higher tax expected to reduce number of gaming machines
The Hungarian Gambling Association (MSzSz) on Monday said it expects 17,000 of 24,000 gaming machines in Hungary to stop operating when a big rise in the gaming tax comes into force on November 1.
Halting the operation of the machines could result in the loss of 30,000 jobs, MSzSz said.
Operators could pull more of the machines in the spring, leaving just 5,000 of them, the association said.
Gaming machine operators will pay a fixed monthly HUF 500,000 per unit and 20% of revenue over a monthly HUF 300,000 from November.
