Guest nights down 3.5% yr/yr in January-October

Hungarian and foreign tourists spent 17.025 million guest nights at commercial lodgings in Hungary in the first ten months of 2006, 3.5% fewer than in the same period a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported today.
The number of foreign guest nights fell 8.7% from a year earlier to 8.904 million while domestic guest nights rose 2.8% to 8.121 million in January-October 2006. Guest nights at hotels fell 1.3% year-on-year to 11.744 million in the first ten months, of which foreign guest nights fell 7.9% to 6.931 million while guest nights spent by Hungarians in hotels rose a sharp 10.2% to 4.813 million. The average occupancy rate of hotels in January-October was 49.7%, unchanged from the same period a year earlier.
Gross revenue of commercial lodgings was Ft 197.64 billion (€769.327 million) in January-October, a 5.5% increase at current prices from the same period a year earlier. Room fees accounted for 58% of total revenue during the period, catering accounted for 23.3% and other services for the rest. Room fees and prices for catering rose 4.7% year-on-year, including a 6.0% rise in room rates and a 4.7% rise in the price of catering services, KSH said. (Mti-Eco)
