France to open labor market
France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy will announce in Warsaw on Wednesday that France will fully open its labor market to the countries that joined the European Union in 2004, reported the French daily Les Échos on Monday.
The current restrictions had been planned to be lifted on May 1, 2009. The labor market has been partially open since May 1, 2006 (regarding 60 jobs, than an additional 90 jobs since this January) and, according to the daily’s data, no explosive labor immigration has taken place since. In 2006 there were 713 seasonal and 1,000 permanent job permits issued. French companies look forward to receiving the EU-10 labor because they have trouble finding people for certain jobs, writes the daily. The measure will become effective during the summer or in the fall, at the latest. (Gazdasági Rádió)
