Foreign visitors' spending plunges 56% y.o.y. in Q1

Spending by foreign visitors in Hungary fell 56% year-on-year to HUF 164 billion in the first quarter, data compiled by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) show.

Spending by day-trippers reached HUF 68 bln, while visitors staying for longer periods spent HUF 97 bln.

Austrians spent the most, HUF 35 bln, mostly on health tourism.

Foreigners traveling for pleasure accounted for 41% of visitors who stayed more than a day in Hungary. People traveling to Hungary to work accounted for 30% and business travelers made up 29%.
