FDI in Serbia at €11 bln since 2000
Foreign direct investment in Serbia has in the past seven years reached €11 billion (about $16.1 billion), a report says.
The Center for Liberal Democratic Studies (CLDS) has published a report on Greenfield investment in Serbian industry, showing that foreign investment has hit new highs this year and last, totaling some €7 billion. According to 2007 projections, Serbia will attract €471 per citizen of direct investment, which is above the average of €365 for eastern European countries, but less than half of the €1,031 per citizen that Montenegro is expected to attract. In terms of investment, Montenegro is the leader in the region, with Croatia in second place with €639 per citizen, and Serbia third.
Montenegro is ahead of all transitional countries in central, eastern and south-eastern Europe, and is followed by Estonia with €954 per citizen. Serbia’s leading Greenfield investor is Austrian mobile company Mobilkom, which has thus far invested €320 million and has announced a further €250 million. It is followed by Slovenian Merkator with €240 million, German Metro Cash and Carry, and Austrian OMV with €150 million each. (B92)
