Cargo division to be separated from MÁV

A new company will be set up after the cargo division is separated from Hungarian railways MÁV Rt from next January, Minister of Economy and Transport János Kóka said on Thursday. Setting up a separate cargo company will help improve the efficiency of rail cargo transport, it will increase sales from logistics activities and will enable the development of strategic partnerships, Kóka said. As part of the reform of Hungarian railways, a new law has been prepared, which will enable the start of competition in railway services, the minister said. Parliament is scheduled to vote on this law next week, he added. Another measure carried out in line with the railways reform has been a 17% cut in the number of staff at management level, Kóka said.
