Last year, 97,420 runners participated in marathons organized by Budapest Sport Office in the capital, up 12.6% from the previous year, the office told MTI.
Almost 12,000 people from 52 countries ran in the Nike Budapest International Half Marathon on September 4, well over the 10,500 runners in last year’s race.
Revenue generated by marathon tourism could exceed HUF 1 billion this year, Budapest Sport Office said.
