Accommodation in Hévíz most expensive among popular holiday spots

Tourism

Commercial accommodations in the spa town of Hévíz, home to Europe's largest thermal lake, are the most expensive among Hungary's most popular get-away destinations, news agency MTI reports, citing research conducted by bookings site Szallas.hu.

Visitors to Hévíz, close to Lake Balaton, pay HUF 14,449 per night, on average, for accommodations, Szallas.hu said.

Bookings in Balatonfüred, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, cost nearly as much: HUF 14,444 per visitor per night, it added.

The other top destinations in Hungary, based on Szallas.hu's bookings, are Siófok, on the southern shore of Lake Balaton; the spa towns of Hajdúszoboszló, Gyula and Zalakaros; the county seats of Eger, Szeged, and Pécs; and the capital.

Szallas.hu noted that the area around Lake Balaton now accounts for one in three bookings at commercial accommodations.
