Police to introduce 'one officer, one car' proram

"One officer, one car” is the name of the new experimental program the Budapest police is to introduce in three districts of the capital and which, according to law enforcement trade union RKDSz, "threatens the lives” of policemen, news portal hvg.hu, the online edition of wekly HVG reported, citing anonymous police sources.

The lonely officers are intended to fulfill low-risk assignments such as charging parking offences or following up people kept in house arrest, the source told hvg.hu. The program was already introduced in Győr (W Hungary) in April, but was finally withdrawn three months later following an incident when an officer was attacked and was able to escape only with the help of citizens.
