Poland to receive EU cultural funds
Poland to receive over half a billion euros from the 2007-2013 Union budget.
The money is to come from the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme, with the funds to be allocated by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Bogdan Zdrojewski, Minister of Culture, has stated that it is worth investing in culture, as it becomes a source of income, profit and commercial gain. The director of the International Cultural Centre in Kraków, Jacek Purchla, has said that cultural heritage is a chance for development, especially in the tourist industry. He added that 65% of the world’s tourist trade is thanks to cultural heritage, such as museums and ancient monuments. The Culture Minister added that there needs to be more cultural education, appealing for changes to the education syllabus to meet such demands. (polskieradio)
