MÁV seeks to turn Hungary into railway hub for Asian goods
State-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV is taking decisive steps to turn Hungary's railway network into a hub for goods arriving from Asia to Europe, MÁV said on Wednesday.
The passage of Asian goods through Hungary could significantly boost revenue from railway usage fees, MÁV said.
A delegation from MÁV recently participated at this year's meeting of the Coordination Council on Trans-Siberian Transportation in Helsinki, the company said. CEO Ilona Dávid met with Russian Railways head Vladimir Yakunin during the meeting and the two agreed to draw up a memorandum of cooperation in the interest of developing railway cooperation between Hungary and Russia, it added.
MÁV said representatives from 113 companies in 24 countries participated at the meeting in Helsinki.
