Local mayor aims to scare Roma straight
The mayor of southern Hungary’s Cserd has called a somewhat controversial program with the goal of crime prevention. Lászó Bogdán’s bluntly named “Köcsögmentesítési Napok” (≈fag elimination days) campaign is meant to show the local Roma minority the consequences of criminal behavior through a tour of a nearby prison, local news portal bama.hu said. Some 20 ethnic Romas attended one such sightseeing Friday, where they were told with “brutal honesty,” as Bogdán explained, that being imprisoned can entail sexual aberrations, rape and suicide.
