Gov’t to take steps enforcing mandatory retirement for some public sector workers
Hungary's cabinet members have until the end of January to take steps enforcing mandatory retirement for public sector workers who have reached pension age and have worked long enough to earn full pension, a recently published government resolution shows.
There are general exceptions to the mandatory retirement rule only for instructors, teachers or researchers at state universities. Particular exceptions exist for other state employees based on case-by-case government reviews.
Positions vacated by employees for who retirement is mandatory may not be filled, neither by consulting or corporate contract.
Additionally, budget institutions are barred from hiring people who have reached the pension age and have worked long enough to earn a full pension.
