The forint strengthened to below 300 to the euro for the first time since December 21, 2011 on Monday afternoon's interbank market, trading at 299.95 to the single European currency at 4:00 p.m.

Dealers attribute the forint's strengthening to an improvement in investor sentiment with regard to Hungary.

The forint has strengthened back below 300 to the euro from a rate of over 324 to the single European currency at the beginning of January.
