Drug producers nervous about weak forint

If the Ft/Euro foreign exchange rate climbs to 300 Ft/Euro, drug producers and importers will initiate talks with the state to notify government officials that their agreement of cooperation is no longer sustainable. Drug manufacturers will contribute Ft 22.3 billion to Hungary's drug budget this year, but they aim at renegotiating the conditions next year. The weak rate of the forint also creates tension amongst drug importers. Effective July 1, the list of subsidized drugs will change: 300 types of drugs will be cheaper and 1000 will be more expensive, expected to lead to Ft 40 billion savings. If the government were to leave the list of the subsidized drugs intact, the drug budget would be overspent by as much as Ft 90 billion. (NG 1)
