Flooding along the Danube is expected to be manageable thanks to the involvement of professionals and civilians in protection efforts, the National Engineering Directorate (OMIT) said on Thursday. “The anticipated flood plume is not expected to cause a critical, unmanageable situation thanks to the deployment of human resources and equipment,” OMIT said in its noon report on Thursday. Water levels on the Danube in Budapest stood at 7.27 meters at 10 in the morning on Thursday. The river is expected to peak at 8.85 meters +/- 20 centimeters in the capital during the day on Monday. Flood waters on the Danube have forced the closure of embankment roads in the capital and disrupted some public transport service. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared a state of emergency in areas affected by flooding along the Danube from noon on Tuesday.

SUPPORT THE BUDAPEST BUSINESS JOURNAL

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
Newspaper organizations across the globe have struggled to find a business model that allows them to continue to excel, without compromising their ability to perform. Most recently, some have experimented with the idea of involving their most important stakeholders, their readers.
We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
