The sixth edition of Budapest Airportʼs Runway Run attracted more than 1,100 runners, representing a new record in the history of the charity fun run event, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

The charity run took place on Ferenc Liszt International Airportʼs runway number one on Saturday, with runners competing in three categories: 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, and 10,000 meters. Profits collected from entry fees will be used to support the Hungarian Suhanj! Foundationʼs fitness programs for people with disabilities, as well as the British Anthony Nolan charityʼs bone marrow transplant program for children.

"It is a great joy and honor for us that Budapest Airport could host this aviation and sports event unique on the whole continent," said Budapest Airport CEO Jost Lammers in welcoming the eventʼs success. "We are proud of the fact that airports from places such as Athens, Düsseldorf and Hamburg are also present with large teams."

The Runway Runʼs main sponsors this year were Airbus, Qatar Airways, KPMG, Mercedes-Benz Hungary, and anna.aero. In 2017, the event raised HUF 15 million, which was donated to the Suhanj! Foundation.
