Renovation on Budapest metro line 3 going forward
Hungaryʼs Public Procurement Arbitration Board (KDB) has cleared the signing of a €219 mln underground carriage renovation contract between Budapest public transport company BKV and Russiaʼs Metrowagonmash, a resolution published yesterday reveals, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
BKV Zrt. asked the KDB in a letter to approve the signing of the contract “as soon as possible”, as the underground line is in such bad condition that operations could be halted in any minute, and bypassing the line with replacement buses would cost HUF 23 bln each month, Hungarian online daily index.hu reported yesterday.
Metrowagonmash won the tender to renovate the 37 trains on the capitalʼs number three metro line, extending their lifespan by 25 years, in July, but Estoniaʼs Skinest Rail, whose bid in the tender was declared invalid, contested the decision.
It was reported earlier that Skinest Rail submitted a formal complaint to the European Commission over the public procurement procedure begun by Budapesti Közlekedési Zártkörűen Működő Részvénytársaság (BKV Zrt.) for the modernization and renovation of the vehicles of Budapestʼs Metro Line M3. The company handed the complaint in after BKV Zrt. qualified their bid as invalid on July 8 and awarded Russian Metrowagonmash (MWM) with the tender, the press release says.
