Romania has become a net importer of agri-food products in the H1 of 2007, said Vergil Voineagu, President of the National Statistics Institute ( INS).

According to him, in the H1 of 2007, Romania recorded a €1.05 billion ($1.43 billion) deficit in the trade with agri-food products, despite traditionally it was a net exporter. The change followed Romania’s accession into the European Union.

In the first six months of the year, Romania’s overall exports amounted €14.1 billion ($19.26 billion), up 11.3% from the same period in 2006, and imports jumped by 28.3%, up to €23.76 billion ($32.46 billion). (people.com.cn)
