Retail sales up 8.5% in March

In March 2018, the volume of sales in retail shops increased by 8.5% according to raw data and, mainly due to the Easter effect, by 7.1% adjusted for calendar effects year-on-year, according to a first estimate of monthly retail trade figures from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

The volume of sales, adjusted for calendar effects, rose by 7.0% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 7.8% in non-food retail shops, and by 5.1% in automotive fuel retail, KSH data show.

In January–March 2018, the volume of sales – also according to calendar-adjusted data – was 7.2% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Sales in the first quarter rose by 5.1% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 9.7% in non-food retail shops, and by 7.5% in automotive fuel retail.

A second, more detailed estimate of March retail trade data will follow on May 24.
