Nine-month fuel sales up 10% yr/yr

Diesel sales rose 10% in January-September 2005, compared to the same period last year, in spite of a dramatic rise in prices, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Thursday, citing figures from the National Customs and Excise Office (VPOP). The VPOP figures show nine-month petrol sales totaled 1.475 billion liters, up from 1.455 billion litres in the same period last year. Diesel sales came to 2.077 billion liters, up from 1.885 billion liters last year. From August to September alone, however, petrol sales fell from 190.42 million litres to 165.33 million litres, while diesel sales rose from 264.51 million litres to 295.56 million litres. Napi Gazdaság noted the decline in petrol sales could be attributed to rising petrol prices. In October, fuel prices should have dropped, the paper added, considering a reduction in VAT on vehicle fuel from 25% to 20% from the beginning of the month.
