May trade deficit narrows to €159 mln on exports

Hungary's May trade deficit narrowed from the previous month as exports rose faster than imports, the statistics office said today. The deficit was €159 million, compared with €178 million in March and €162 million in the same month last year, according to preliminary estimates, the office said in a statement. Exports totalled €4.88 billion, up from €4.37 billion in April, and 20.6% higher than in May 2005. Imports rose to €5.04 billion from €4.55 billion the previous month and were up 19.7% from a year ago. Hungary's five-month trade deficit was €991.7 million versus €1.09 billion in the same period last year.
