Hungary will host the 2022 Bocuse d'Or Europe, the continental qualifier for the international Bocuse d'Or gastronomy contest, in March, Hungarian Tourism Agency head Zoltán Guller said in a video posted on YouTube, according to state news wire MTI.

Chefs from 20 countries will compete at the contest which will aid the recovery of Budapest's hard-hit tourism sector, Guller said.

Zoltán Hamvas, who heads the Hungarian Bocuse d'Or Academy, said it would be a "great honor" to bring Europe's best chefs to Budapest again after the capital hosted the qualifier in 2016.

Tamás Széll, who won the 2016 Bocuse d'Or Europe, said the contest would offer the chance to showcase Hungary's culinary talent as well as raise the profile of local ingredients.

Hungary's government earmarked close to HUF 252 million in funding to make preparations to host the 2022 Bocuse d'Or Europe early in 2020.
