Fuel consumption up in Hungary despite rising prices

The Magyar Ásványolaj Szövetseg (Hungarian petroleum alliance - MASz) reported that fuel consumption rose 0.6% in Hungary during the first half of 2008 in spite of the increase in the cost of gasoline and diesel.

MASz said that the price of fuel in Hungary had risen by 15.6% since June 2007.

MASz reported that 779.4 million liters of gasoline were sold in Hungary during first half of 2008, 3% less than in the first half of 2007, while 776.4 million liters of diesel were sold in Hungary during the first half of 2008, 4.5% more than in the first half of 2007.

MASz said that consumption of 98-octane gasoline in Hungary had dropped 26.7% to 29.25 million liters during first half of 2008, while consumption of 95-octane gasoline had slipped 1.8% to 750.2 million liters during the period.

MASz reported that the average price of gasoline was Ft 317 per liter in June 2008, compared to around Ft 295 per liter in June 2007, while the average price of diesel was Ft 335 per liter in June 2008, compared to Ft 260 per liter in June 2007.

MASz said that a total of 3.328 billion liters of fuel had been sold in Hungary in 2007, including 1.664 billion liters of gasoline and 1.574 billion liters of diesel

MASz said that 85% of the fuel purchased on the Hungarian market is sold through association members. (MTI – Econews)
